Seeking Developers for Small Renewable Energy Generators
For the first time, the Bioenergy Market Adjusting Tariff (BioMAT) program is available to community energy providers, and Orange County Power Authority (OCPA) is one of the first in California to participate. Facilitated through the California Public Utilities Commission, the BioMAT program is designed for small energy generators less than 5 MW in size and must be located in OCPA member cities.
Program participants have the opportunity to generate revenue while helping to produce renewable energy to be purchased by OCPA, directly benefitting member cities.
Electricity generated as part of the BioMAT program counts toward OCPA’s Renewable Portfolio Standard targets and promotes the development of clean energy projects, stimulates the local economy, and contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Small-scale bioenergy projects can be procured in three categories:
- Biogas from wastewater treatment, municipal organic waste diversion, food processing, and co-digestion
- Dairy and other agricultural bioenergy
- Bioenergy using byproducts of sustainable forest management
Interested parties can find additional information through the Community Choice Aggregator BioMAT Participant Platform.
The BioMAT program is one of the innovative ways OCPA is reinvesting in the community by incentivizing local development of renewable energy projects to create long-term environmental sustainability in Orange County.
Coming soon! OCPA will also be offering a Solar Feed-in-Tariff Pilot Program.
