ORANGE COUNTY POWER AUTHORITY’S E-BIKE SAFETY & INCENTIVE PILOT PROGRAM WILL HELP CUSTOMERS SAVE MONEY ON THE PURCHASE OF E-BIKES AND HELMETS
Eligible OCPA customers can redeem vouchers at local bike shops after completing an e-bike safety training course
IRVINE, Calif. (July 1, 2024) – As part of its mission to equitably reinvest in supporting sustainable communities, Orange County Power Authority (OCPA) announced today their E-bike Safety and Incentive Pilot Program to help customers adopt this cost-effective and environmentally friendly form of transportation. The first 100 eligible applicants that complete an online or in-person e-bike safety training will receive a discount voucher to redeem toward the purchase of an e-bike and helmet at a local bike shop.
The vouchers are for $600 toward a standard Level 1 or 2 e-bike, or $1,500 for income-qualified customers under the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) and Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) programs.
“With the rising popularity of e-bikes as an eco-friendly and convenient way to get around, safety needs to be our paramount concern,” said OCPA Chair Fred Jung. “OCPA is an active participant in these important efforts to improve safety. OCPA’s E-bike Safety and Incentive Pilot Program is intended to promote both safe usage of e-bikes on our streets as well as provide an investment in our shared future, fostering both wellbeing and sustainability for our communities.”
The online e-bike safety training course, produced by the Orange County Transportation Authority, is available on the OCPA website at E-Bikes 101: Introduction to E-Bike Safety and Use. It includes information about three types of e-bikes, rules of the road, the differences between e-bikes and other two-wheeled modes of transportation, and safety inspections.
OCPA has partnered with the following bike shops where the vouchers can be redeemed:
- Buena Park Bicycles
- Fullerton Bicycles
- Irvine Bicycles
- Trails End Cycling Center in Irvine
The participating bike shops will be offering e-bike safety training sessions for those who prefer hands-on training. Dates will be announced soon.
Individuals interested in applying for a voucher must be 18 years of age. Applications are available at https://www.ocpower.org/e-bike-safety-and-incentive-pilot-program/.
