Community Grants

One benefit of being a community energy provider is that we reinvest our revenue back into the communities we serve. OCPA provides various grant funding opportunities aimed at supporting local non-profits, schools, educators, and organizations in their efforts to showcase and promote the benefits of renewable energy and Community Choice Aggregation.

Joint Calpine Community Benefits 2024-2025 Grant Award Recipients 

  • OC Goes Solar – ($20,000) – Funds will support the launch of the ‘Electrify Everything’ Accelerator Campaign, that will focus on education and cost savings home electrification assistance to low to moderate income homes in Buena Park, Fullerton, and Irvine.
  • Cool OC – ($20,000) – Funds will support the Cool Block Climate Leadership and Resilience Program into Fullerton and Buena Park, which will conduct training on family emergency plans, assemble emergency kits, and clearly identify local resources during natural disasters or extreme heat events, and overall expand the education on climate resilience. 
  • CSU Fullerton Philanthropic Association – ($20,000) The Philanthropy Association will receive support for students to participate in the Climate Impact Assessment Internship that will focus on high-quality pollution monitoring inside CSU Fullerton’s Arboretum and health impacts of the proximity of the 57 freeway. 
  • One OC ($20,000)  Funds will support the Buena Park Collaborative community members to gain materials to support the local community garden by providing stipends to community members to maintain the garden, educational trainings such as composting, drought tolerant growing, and climate control, and other community engagement activities to support the maintenance of the garden. 
  • Orange County United Way ($20,000) – The organization gain support for their United for Student Success Summer Career & Life Academy which supports students staying in school and perusing a career or degree after high school with this funding there will be a focus on education of clean energy usage, and green jobs primarily to Buena Park and Fullerton students. 
  • California Green Business Network ($20,000) – Funds will support energy efficiency rebates for  Irvine businesses after getting the Green Business Program, and support outreach efforts to grow the Green Business Program and possibly have it added into Buena Park and Fullerton. 
  • The Dragon Kim Foundation ($10,000) – Funds will support training and developing cost of hundreds of hours of workshops for The Dragon Kim Foundation Fellowship Program focused on environmental and renewable energy projects of High School students primarily in Irvine. 

2024-2025 Bright Futures Grant Award Recipients

  • Girl Scouts of OC ($20,000) – Renewable Energy-in-a-Box Program will earn a patch branded with the OCPA logo. Solar Oven Kits for one year, thereby helping GSOC teach girls about solar energy and the benefits of solar cooking with OCPA branding. 
  • The Dragon Kim Foundation ($10,000) – Training to high school students to successfully launch Renewable Energy focused projects. Raise community awareness about the benefits and importance of renewable energy sources through marketing materials in Multilanguage’s aimed to bring more community members to the launching of project workshops. 
  • Cool OC ($5,000) – Expand the North OC Cool Block Climate Leadership and Resilience program providing leadership and resilience training for sustainability champions in disadvantaged communities. 
  • OC Goes Solar ($5,000) – Work closely with community members to address these challenges by conducting grassroots outreach, sharing relevant information, and connecting low-income households with clean energy.

2023-2024 Bright Futures Grant Award Recipients

  • Climate Action Campaign ($20,000) – Conducted three educational events of 25-30 people in each of the proposed cities. These events were hosted in English and Spanish depending on the preferred language of the community group, and community stipends will be provided to all attendees to compensate for their time and expertise and facilities equitable engagement. 
  • OC Goes Solar ($20,000) – Expanded the partners’ extensive experience in climate/environmental communication, strong record of Orange County CCA advocacy, and demonstrated success in partnering on educational and promotional events, especially to reach and engage individuals in underserved communities. 
  • Pretend City, the Children’s Museum of Orange County ($20,000) -Installed two examples of renewable energy, “wind turbines” and “solar panels,” to power back-lit signs in several of our learning spaces and conducted fun learning experiences for Title 1 school visitors. 
  • Charitable Ventures fbo Cool OC ($20,000) – Trained block leaders to lead neighborhood teams that go through a series of eight topics including energy efficiency, carbon emission reduction, clean energy adoption, water stewardship, disaster resilience, waste and recycling, and community building.
