INSTEAD OF BUYING NEW CLOTHES, TRY VINTAGE.

In the era of fast fashion and overconsumption, opting for vintage or thrifted clothes is a chic and eco-friendly way to reduce your carbon footprint. By picking pre-loved items, you’re not only taking a stand against the rapid consumption and waste generated by fast fashion but also embracing unique styles that reflect your individuality. This conscious decision supports a more sustainable and responsible approach to fashion, making a positive impact on our planet.

INSTEAD OF PHYSICALLY READING THE PAPER, GO DIGITAL

Love reading the local newspaper every morning? You don’t have to give it up. Rather than subscribing to physical newspapers or magazines, opt for their digital counterparts. This reduces paper waste and the energy used in printing and delivery. Plus, many outlets are now sending thoughtful iterations via email, so you’ll likely catch up on news faster.

INSTEAD OF OPTING FOR THE SAME OLD LIGHT BULB, GO LED

Swap out incandescent bulbs for LED or other energy-efficient lighting options. Energy-efficient lighting is a small step towards a big difference. INSTEAD OF UBERING OR DRIVING, TAKE THE BUS

INSTEAD OF THROWING AWAY KITCHEN SCRAPS, TRY COMPOSTING – IT’S THE LAW

On January 1, 2022, California’s state law SB 1383 took effect, requiring homes and businesses to recycle food and yard waste. Instead of disposing of organic waste – food scraps (meat, bones, dairy, fruit and vegetables), food-soiled paper (napkins, paper towels and uncoated cardboard) and yard clippings (small branches, grass trimmings and leaves) place these items in your green waste disposal bin. Or you can compost at home and use it to enrich the soil in your garden. Significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions are possible by diverting organic waste from landfills.

INSTEAD OF USING NAME-BRAND CLEANING PRODUCTS, GO ECO-FRIENDLY

Not only are eco-friendly cleaning products just as effective but they’re also better for your health, according to the Northern Inyo Health District. Many brands also offer refillable options now, reducing plastic waste and exposure to harmful substances.
