County Of Orange Joins Orange County Power Authority

Businesses and residents in unincorporated areas of Orange County soon to have the option of community choice energy.

Irvine, Calif. (December 15, 2021) – The Orange County Power Authority (OCPA) announced today that the County of Orange became the fifth member of the OCPA and has entered into the OCPA Joint Powers Agreement. Orange County Third District Supervisor Donald P. Wagner will represent the County on the OCPA Board of Directors.

“Orange County residents deserve flexibility when it comes to how they power up their homes or businesses. Because of the partnership with OCPA, my constituents can soon access competitive energy rates, and more options to leverage clean energy, whether you go carbon-free or 100% renewable,” said Supervisor Donald P. Wagner. “Serving as your Orange County Supervisor, I support renewable energy development, conservation programs, and efforts to decrease greenhouse gas emissions. We owe it to our children and grandchildren to leave the world in better shape.”

The County of Orange joins the current OCPA member cities of Buena Park, Fullerton, Huntington Beach and Irvine.

“As we gear up for OCPA’s launch in 2022, we are excited to welcome the County of Orange to OCPA membership, which will bring community choice energy to businesses and residents in Orange County,” said Chairman Mike Carroll. “By giving customers the choice to power their businesses or homes with renewable energy, we’re helping local communities take an active role in addressing climate change.”

OCPA plans to launch service to commercial businesses in Spring 2022, with residential service beginning in Fall 2022. At full launch, OCPA will serve more than 820,000 residents, making it the sixth-largest community choice energy provider in the State of California.
